Monthly Informational Sessions at Lahaina Fire Station

On September 8, 2023 we held our first informational session at the Lahaina Fire Station where we brought in insurance specialists to work with the 17 (Lahaina & Napili) firefighters  who have lost their homes. FEMA denied their original applications because they all had insurance, although like most people they were underinsured, so we assisted the firefighters with their FEMA appeals in October. Note that you have 60 days to file an appeal. Anticipating the 90 days forclosure moratorium expiring in November, we offered one-on-one mortgage consultations to the firefighters. We have also established connections with the 4 lifeguards who have lost their homes, through speaking with the Lahaina & Napili firefighters. In these informational sessions we brought in specialists within each subject area, and worked alongside these individuals to answer any questions firefighters may have had following the presentations. We were back at the Lahaina Fire Station helping with SBA loans when the deadline was extended from November 9th to December 9th.

UPDATE: In October 2023, the Mayor of Maui County requested that our organization provide assistance to the 15 police officers who lost their homes in the fires, and since then have begun assisting them as well.
